Union Blast Text Messaging
Launch plans for March 2010
Changing with the times, UCOMM is in the process of making blast text messaging a standard of service for all UCOMM Clients. Texting the membership will give local unions the power to inform when their members are mobile. "Our websites and emails are our flagship, and it has been that way for years," says Kris LaGrange. "Ryan and I have been researching and developing a user friendly system so our clients can send out blast text messages upon need. What makes this special is that there will be NO charge to the clients for doing this." More information on this programs success will be reported in March 2010.
Blast Text Messages Update
So far, so good. A couple UCOMM clients have taken advantage of this service and it is working great. The list builds itself in two ways; one by the local collecting it and two, through the sign-up form on the unions website. Currently Laborers Local 66, CWA Local 1104, CWA Local 1109 and Local 259 UAW have sent out multiple blast text messages. UCOMM staff attended a General Membership Meeting for Laborers Local 66, and the feedback from the members getting the text reminding them of the union meeting was positive. Commenting on the sucess of this service, Kris LaGrange said; "It is important to note that clients should be mindful of how frequently they send out blast text messages. A short message once in a blue moon is a good idea, but sending the members a text every week is not. I have a gut feeling that when contract negotiations arise, we will use blast text messages more often for certain clients."
